She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review. Opinions shared are mine.

I did a lot of reading over spring break, and finally got around to finishing She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica. This would have been a 2 star for me, until the very last page which left one last impressive twist. It was pretty obvious all along who was doing what, and the story seemed to drag on and on. Enough litte clues are dropped that eventually you can see what’s coming. It was way over the top in terms of unbelievability. However, it has really high Goodreads ratings so the problem is probably me!

One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware

Disclosure: Thanks to the publisher for giving me a copy of this book for review. Opinions shared are mine.

This is definitely my favorite Ruth Ware book yet! It was worth the lack of sleep. The deserted island setting sounded glorious until the storm hits — in more ways than one. There’s lots of girl power and sisterhood in One Perfect Couple. It would be a great book club selection!

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen

I hadn’t read any of Sarah Pekkanen authored novels and thought House of Glass was a good place to start. I really liked her collaborations with Greer Hendricks.

Mister Lullaby by J. H. Markert #Netgalley

Many thanks to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book. Opinions shared are mine.

I have read several books from this author, both under this pen name and his other name. Mister Lullaby is definitely of the horror genre, with much gore and violence.

Many thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book! Opinions shared are mine.

I had a little bit of a struggle with The Fury. I compulsively read it during my first weekend off for Christmas, putting it down only when necessary (like when my kids insisted on opening gifts, but I really wanted to read.) I felt like I owed that to author Alex Michaelides, you know?

Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead by Jenny Hollander

Many moons ago, I taught 6th grade language arts. A frequent trope in my students’ creative writing was “the bad dream.” As in, all this stuff happens, then you find out it was all a bad dream. That’s funny, like, maybe once. After that, it’s old. That’s NOT what happens in Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead, but I felt like it did.

Out of the Darkness by Debra Holz

Disclosure: I received a book for review. Opinions shared are mine.

I have been ill with strep throat for the past few days, and am finally rising out of my sickbed to be able to post today. Crazy how long it takes me to recover now that I’m hitting the almost-50 mark. I hope all of you are doing well! Today my post is about the book Out of the Darkness by Debra Holz. Although this book is about depression, I find that my “darkness” is more often caused by anxiety. The two regularly go hand in hand, and it’s a calamity many people struggle with.

Well, those 2 months went by really fast! It’s wrestling season so we’re capital-B-BUSY around here. I’ve spent lots of time in the car, shuffling my son from one activity to the next. Luckily, sitting through practices and tournaments means that I get plenty of chances to read! My newest book to feature is Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard.
