On My Bookshelf: Secretly Smitten

Secretly Smitten is on my bookshelf this week. Such a great read!!!! I received this book to review, but that doesn’t change my opinion of it.  It was an adorable, fun story.  Secretly Smitten was written by four real-life best friends, which made it even more appealing to me. I loved the idea of having four intertwined short stories in one book. Although romance isn’t normally my favorite type of book to read, this one was truly adorable. The short story format really eliminated the extraneous fluff that I normally despise in romance novels. The characters are so tight-knit that the flow from one story to the next was very fluid.  I loved the way that each story highlighted a different character, yet the entire book was blend of each story.  Smitten is the kind of small town that I’d love to visit.  The town of Smitten reminds me of Jonesborough, Tennessee.  I could imagine myself strolling through town enjoying a warm cup of cocoa, or watching a parade from the old brick sidewalks.  We love eating at the little cafes in Jonesborough or sitting on the sidewalk to watch the parade go by.  Sometimes a horse and carriage will take a newlywed couple by and we all clap for them.  A natural next step for Secretly Smitten would be a cookbook with Anna’s famous fried chicken or Ryan’s homemade lasagna.  I’d also love to share some of Tess’s homemade bread!  Like an indulgent piece of chocolate cake, this book just got better and better as it went on.   There was some delicious predictability, I won’t lie.  However, there were enough twists of fate to make the book interesting.  This is a book that would be a fun book club topic or just a good Sunday afternoon read.

Yum and fun. I don’t know whether I want to eat or read. 🙂 These writers must have been really close to collaborate on a story like that. How fun and challenging to write. It would make for an interesting read.
