As we enter the new year, you might be experiencing some cold days. You might even have snow! One of the best ways to spend a snow day, in my opinion, is to cuddle my kids in a soft blanket with a stack of books to read together. A Star for Me is a dear book to share! Hopefully you haven’t put away your Christmas decor yet; this one can go right along with your basket of Christmas books.
This board book has a soft cover and a big bonus — it includes a shiny, glitter star ornament to hang on the Christmas tree! You could include this book as part of your family’s Christmas celebration next year, or just enjoy it throughout the year as a special reminder of God’s blessings. In the story, the little camel Ollie travels with his family to Bethlehem. Parents and kids alike will relate to the issues Oliver’s family face as they make the journey. Ollie is a typical little one, so his parents entertain him with stories along the way. He craves candy but his mom reminds him that straw is the healthiest choice for camels. He even tries to anticipate the surprise that is waiting for him at the end of the story. Be sure to help your child find the star each time you turn the page (it moves sometimes!) and discuss the action words that make the story come alive. Tie in the message of blessings with your family’s own time of gratitude. A Star for Me makes a lovely gift, too.
Do you like to read holiday books at Christmas?
This sounds like a perfect read for me and my niece. She is just getting in to reading and learning to read on her own and she loves books. So I think this would be prefect for her and I to sit back and read during the holidays and such.
