If you’re a fan of clean, Christian romance books, Fired Up would be a good choice for you. It’s the second book in the Trouble In Texas series. I received this book to review for a book tour and sat down to enjoy it on this calm Friday evening. Fired Up was as a decent historical romance and I’ll enjoy passing this on to my mother-in-law who enjoys that type of literature. The main character, Glynna, finds herself widowed for a second time. She’s the mother of two children and needs to find a way to take care of them without depending on a man again. Big spoiler alert—DO NOT read the summary on the back of the book because it really gives away several of the main problems that arise for the characters. Don’t you hate when that happens? I do. The dialogue and character interaction was interesting enough, if a bit too predictable. I enjoyed the teenage angst represented by Glynna’s son Paul. For me, he seemed to be the only character who was really genuine throughout the book. Although the romance factor was probably the purpose of the book, I would have preferred to see the story focus on getting Glynna back on her feet on her own. Thrusting her back into a third romance within the shadow of her husband’s death seemed rushed to me. “Dare” seemed to be too edgy name for an otherwise normal kind of guy. All in all, the book was a little bit vanilla for me. The romance part isn’t the reason I pick up most books; I enjoy it as a sideline but was really rooting for Glynna to be a strong single mom this time around. I’d love to see some true sparks in the next book, with some really unexpected twists!
