Here at Savings in Seconds, you get a chance to win the book The Heirloom Life Gardener: The Baker Creek Way of Growing Your Own Food Easily and Naturally, sponsored by Baker Creek Seeds. I’ve purchased from Baker Creek seeds for two years and have been so impressed with their dedication to preserving our food supply. Their articles are always so informative, inspiring, and inventive. In fact, I started working on this post three times and kept getting distracted because I couldn’t stop reading the articles on the Baker Creek website! I saw this article and started thinking about growing radishes, even though I have never eaten a radish! Then after reading this article on gooseberry tomatoes, I got sidetracked and started looking for tomato jam recipes. So I’m determined to sit down and write this giveaway post, because The Heirloom Life Gardener is a story in itself!
It all started when I ordered my copy of The Heirloom Life Gardener from Baker Creek. On the day it arrived, I sat down and read it cover to cover. Then I made a list of all the plants I needed to try, and placed another seed order. Shipping is so affordable that I don’t mind placing additional orders, which is very rare for me! Now those seeds are growing and thriving, thanks to the helpful information in this goldmine of a book. Jere and Emilee Gettle, owners of Baker Creek, explain how they plant their garden, prepare their harvest, and even how to collect the seeds from their plants. There is excellent information about organic gardening and how to safely deal with pests, too. It’s just such a well-rounded reference. For the first time, I realized that I could maximize my garden’s space by growing plants together or by growing plants year-round. I hope you’ll check out Baker Creek seeds. They follow the Safe Seed pledge (no GMO’s found here, thank you very much!) with over 1450 varieties of seeds from over 70 countries! The fascinating articles are not to be missed either.
Enter to win your SIGNED hardcover copy of The Heirloom Life Gardener via the rafflecopter form below. The giveaway is open to US readers ages 18+ (except where prohibited by law.) Good luck!

No I have not ordered from Bake Creek, but they have no genetically mutated seed all are heirloom seeds they do not use GMO seeds which is great cause who knows what is really happening with GMO vegetables, plants, grains, etc.. I would love some Beefsteak tomatoes…
I swear I have pinned half of Baker Creek’s seeds to my Garden board on Pinterest! I only have the space for some window planters right now that are mostly herbs but I can wait to move to a house with a yard. One great thing to see on their blog would be more in depth descriptions, histories, and grow out pictures of the plants. Even if you just do one or two a month it would be interesting!
GMO foods scare me! I haven’t had much opportunity to garden because of our small city space. I have been learning more about small scale gardening and would love to read more articles about growing substantial plants in small areas.
We just finished getting the last of our plants in the ground. We did our research regarding companies that do not use GMO seeds. It is so super important to my husband and I that we grow organic, wholesome, non-gmo food for our family. I am so greatful for companies like Baker Creek!
GMO foods / seeds scare us. We are growing our own food this year! We would love to win this book to help give us some tips along the way.
I am a fairly beginning gardener. I have not ordered from Baker Creek yet, but that just might be changing
I like to learn all I can about gardening. I would like to know more about gardening in areas there is a lot of snow and how to do-ahead for the short growing months (only about 3 or 4).
I have not heard of Baker Creek.
A good quality of seed is important when a person works so hard in getting a good crop.
It helps out with food expenses
I have not ordered through them yet, but have heard only good things. I like a variety, non gmo, organic, and to learn new techniques to help my garden flourish.
I am garden-obsessed! I just love growing my own food. I have ordered from Baker Creek before and I just love their selection! I am anti-GMO and support Baker’s Creek!
