I’m guilty of using the kiss-test to see if my kids have a fever. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a very unscientific way to diagnose a sick kid. Basically, my lips can tell if my child’s temperature is running slightly high. The problem is, unless you’re Marie Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond, this technique is not very accurate. Thankfully, Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer with Smart Glow makes it simple to take a temperature, even if the baby is asleep!
Those who have visited the pediatrician in the past few years have probably seen (and coveted) this thermometer. It slides right across the child’s forehead, miraculously taking the temperature within seconds. There’s no poking or prodding in personal places. Everyone appreciates that!
A few weeks ago, my whole family passed around a nasty virus that caused fever, headaches, and body pain. It was really difficult to gauge the severity of my children’s fevers because I was feverish, too! So when my son ran a slight fever this weekend, we felt very blessed to have the Exergen Smart Glow right in the drawer. It has several features that I really like. First, the thermometer stores the most recent temperature readings. That means I don’t have to keep a log of the past 3 temps taken, unless I just have all kinds of extra time on my hands. Also, it makes almost no noise. When I’m sneaking into my son’s room at 2 AM, the last thing I want is a siren blaring to wake him up! Finally, the thermometer is Made in the USA.
The Exergen Smart Glow Temporal Artery Thermometer retails for $59.99. You can find it at Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Walgreens, and many other retailers. It’s often on sale, and it makes a fantastic baby shower gift.

I have needed an accurate thermometer before, and the ones that I encounter were not that accurate. Readings consecutively read as much as 2 degrees off of a previous measurement. The Exergen thermometer is a digital way to go so it looks like a more viable option.
