Disclosure: I received a copy of this book as part of the blog tour. Opinions shared are mine.
The dishes have been cleared and the house put back in order. Instead of shopping today, we’re reading! The Gift of Christmas Past is a quick read that you can enjoy with your morning coffee this week.
The Gift of Christmas Past was a Woodsmall family collaboration, which was great to see. Its setting is near where I live, and I enjoyed reading about places that I recognized. The story itself was short and therefore rather fragmented, since it was necessary to move on to the rest of the plot. After glossing over the first few chapters (in which main characters Hadley and Monroe are teenagers), The Gift of Christmas Past was much more engaging.
Seeing a Christian fiction piece that traces back to a foster child situation is a nice change of pace. Surprisingly, this book is not saturated with faith-based messages (or even Christmas imagery). Instead, it focuses on healing the past and having hope for the future. Though it wasn’t my favorite of Cindy Woodsmall’s books, it was a pleasant change from Amish fiction.
One lucky reader will win a copy of The Gift of Christmas Past. The giveaway is open to US readers ages 18+. Void where prohibited by law. Good luck!
This seems like a very emotional read. I love anything having to deal with Christmas and the plot of coming to terms and finding peace with one’s self and circumstance is an a big plus.
