It was a relaxing 4th of July at the Savings in Seconds house. We spent the morning swimming and just being generally lazy. While the kids played I did some online shopping at cashed out my Birchbox points. Speaking of, if you’re a Birchbox subscriber, are you taking advantage of the chance to earn points on reviews? It’s so very simple to do this, and you can earn 50 points (equivalent of 50 cents) per review. Considering that I sometimes get 7 samples in my Birchbox, this is a chance to get $3.50 back on my box. With my orders, I always look for the mystery sample pack in the Bonus Shop, which gives me another 2-3 samples to review. Those savings add up!
My daughter has Bride-of-Frankenstein curly hair so I wanted to try Miss Jessie’s products to see if the curls could be tamed. I ordered 2 different products, plus a Benefit mascara, Benefit fake-up, and a sample pack for me. After all was said and done, I paid only $6 after cashing out my Birchbox points. Love that! Don’t leave money on the table — if you’re a subscriber, get those reviews in and let the points add up. The reviews only have to be 20 words (and I can always come up with more than that!)
If you’re not a subscriber, you are missing out on some great samples! You can sign up here and start receiving goodies. Many times I receive a deluxe sample or sometimes a full-size product in my Birchbox. It’s so worth the $10 per month (plus I like getting fun mail). This month I upgraded to the 1-year subscription which gave me 2 free boxes, plus 99 points toward the Birchbox store. If you have too many samples sitting around, why not have your friends over for a Sample Swap night?
Also yesterday I squeezed in a good book. Blind Trust has a lot of heated moments in which I wasn’t sure how the situation would turn out. This book is all about conspiracy theories. It reads like a TV show! It’s written in third person and, in my opinion, would have been better if written from Kate’s first-person perspective. There were a couple of really cool science facts thrown into the mystery that made me Google some terms. Always love that! Blind Trust is a fast-paced book, which is why I finished it in one day. It’s one that you just can’t put down until you know what happens.
The final thing we did was enjoy some family time on a larger scale. July 4th is my brother-in-law’s birthday and it was his 40th! We went over to his house for dinner, the kids played with some sparklers, then we all drove over to watch fireworks. It was such a wonderful summer day. I hope you got to enjoy a nice day, too, even if you’re not in the US! And today, have a happy July 5th!
Blind Trust looks like a good book, thanks for letting me know about it!
Sounds like a good book to pick up!

Interesting read and great point program. Thank you for sharing these details!
I’ve wanted to try this for a while but haven’t done so yet. Love the incentives!
Will have to pick up a copy of Blind Trust, love a good fast-paced read in the summer! Will have to check into Birchbox, too, looks like a fun and rewarding program.
I have not heard of Birch Box – but I really don’t use much in the way of make up and the like. What a fun day to have a birthday. I hope you have a restful weekend.
I do love it when July 5th is on a Saturday. Gives you a chance to get caught up on so many things, including tracking discounts and savings like this Birchbox one! Whoot!
The books sound interesting. I will have to put it on my must read list.
This book looks like one I might have to put on my reading list. I also have never heard of Birchbox so will be looking into that as well.
Sounds like you had a wonderful day. I had hear about Birchbox but never checked it out….I’m checking it out now. We worked out back this weekend, repairing our fence from the storms, but we did manage to squeeze in Independence Day. It’s a tradition at our house! Happy birthday to your brother-in-law and hope all the Birchbox products work well for you.
This book sounds great. I am definitely putting it on my list!
I had Birchbox about a year ago and was always disappointed but I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about it lately… making me debate if I should sign back up.
Hmm… I’ve never heard of Birchbox before… I’ll have to look in to it!
I loved Birchbox when I was a subscriber. You can rack up points pretty quick if you leave feedback on the products.
I’d never heard of birchbox. Thanks for the heads up!
