Disclosure: I partnered with The LEV3L Digital Team for this post and giveaway; I will receive a DVD combo pack. Opinions shared are mine.
A few days ago, my son (age 9) commented out of the blue, “Mom. You’re lucky, you got to spend time with your grandfather.” He’s right. I am lucky! My grandfather was such a sweet man. I miss his quiet goodness and gentle chuckle. I had the chance to eat his famous pancakes and watch Gunsmoke with him. Grandfathers are special people.
I didn’t get to see the movie Healed By Grace, but the second movie — Healed By Grace 2 — is precious. Also, now I know what a Rubber Ducky story is.
The characters in Healed By Grace 2 seem as real as people you’d know from work or school. There’s a bit of an On Golden Pond feel to the movie, too, after Jesse is shipped off to stay with her grandfather. Gauff reminded me of a slightly less grumpy Norman. Jesse was sweeter than Billy, but she was a teenager, after all! I did, however, cringe when John asked Gauff to keep Jesse for “just a couple of weeks” without telling his wife. WHAT?!?! The little flashes of alternate reality were funny, though.
This movie has sweet themes of forgiveness and reconciliation. Grief can harden hearts, but through faith and grace, healing begins. I love that Jesse had so many adults in her life who cared for her. Not all teenagers have that good fortune.
Healed By Grace 2 has some terrific music on its soundtrack. I also loved seeing the horses, which reminded me of being home in Kentucky.
I can’t say that this movie features stellar acting, but it’s priced right for a clean family night rental. The clean humor, realistic story line, and cute character interactions make up for the stilted dialogue. Even though the horses might appeal to kids, it’s not entertaining enough for the younger crowd. This movie is better suited to teens and adults.
One lucky reader will win a DVD Combo pack. This is a quick turnaround because I posted late (sorry!!) Enter on the form below through 9/14 at 10 PM EST. The giveaway is open to US readers ages 18+. Void where prohibited by law. Good luck!
Buy the DVD at ChristianBook.com or Amazon.
About The Movie
Jesse is approaching her 15th birthday and the only gift she desires is a horse. Unbeknownst to Jesse, her mother Brandy is in the throes of a cancer diagnosis which has Jesse’s father jumping through unexpected obstacles. He signs Jesse up for summer camp, but when summer camp falls through he decides to have her stay with her estranged grandfather, an old gruff horse trainer named Gauff. Gauff, still recovering from the death of a special horse named Grace, now faces the challenges of teen negotiation. Gauff finds he must swallow his pride and ask his daughter Brandy for forgiveness. A humorous and inspiring story of how God’s grace works in mysterious ways.
