Container Gardening with Smart Pots

Disclosure: I received product samples; opinions shared are mine.

I believe that using heirloom seeds to grow my family’s food is a great way to live a sustainable lifestyle.  Whether your form of gardening is a beautiful bush, a towering vine of tomatoes, or some weeds that you grow in the backyard for the caterpillars to eat, it’s a start.  My garden went from one little container to almost my entire back patio area….so it’s definitely a work in progress for me.  When I ran out of soil to use, I decided to give raised beds a try.  Smart Pots sent me this Big Bag Bed.  It was so easy to use that I had it up and ready in less than an hour.  You’ve got to read about my project and see the yummy greens I planted!   I’m really excited about growing organic veggies for my family to enjoy.  I also want to share them with my family, friends, and co-workers.  If you knew me “in real life,” you’d know that giving to others is one of my favorite things in life.  Teaching my children how to enjoy food fresh from the garden is so exciting to me!  Knowing that the food was grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or other chemicals is even better.  The Big Bag Bed made it so easy to plant a variety of vegetables.  I’m looking forward to the growing just as much as the harvest.  Smart Pot makes it easier to utilize a small growing area.

I would plant fixings for a salad. I came across a really nifty dwarf scarlett cherry tomato that stayed super small and low, so it won’t take over the Big Bad Bed, and a single pepper plant, a staggered planting of leaf lettuces that I can cut for dinner and it will grow back, and a pretty row of basil to top it off. Next season I would try 3 foot long Asian beans, poled…..The next season I would plant it full of Marigolds, for a huge block of riotous color….and when it finally wears out as a container. I would use the fabric around bushes for weed control…Smart Pots are super Smart!

  6. I like the fact that the smart pot increases aeration to the root system encouraging the plant to grow more. I also like the fact that it cuts down on disease and insects. It sounds really interesting, hope I get to try it 😀

I decided to grow vegetables this year in order to start canning. These smart pots are AWESOME!! The ad says that they are all natural unlike some raised beds that are made with lumber treated with chemicals. I’m going to buy some of these for my tomatoes, etc.
