I’ve never been set up on a blind date! Many of my friends met their significant others through blind dates, and I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that matchmaking can be so successful. Being matched with a book is the next best thing, though, right? Big thanks to Just Read Tours for pairing me with this bookish blind date!
Opening the book was like discovering a gift in the mail! It was wrapped so prettily. I recognized the book right away. It was one I’d seen before but never had the chance to read — A Season to Dance by Patricia Beal!
This story was a twist on the classic The One Who Got Away plot. It incorporated an entrancing ballet theme that helped to give the characters more depth. Through the lens of the dance world, we see how personal goals can pair with a determination mindset to potentially damage one’s relationship with God. I’m not a dancer, and it’s been years since my daughter took dance classes, so I kind of skimmed over those dance-focused parts. The dance references didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story, but didn’t really add to it either.
“This is for every little dreamer….”
In this debut, Ana’s life tailspins after a kiss…one that rocks her world in more ways than one. Though many will not relate to the ballet scenario, it’s easy to imagine this story in “real life.” It’s the old What If? scenario. Ana takes her life by the horns and goes after her heart. The book is short enough to finish in one day, which makes the story move pretty quickly since a lot happens to Ana during this period of her life! Ana reminded me of an ant whose hill was disturbed. She had everything stored up, planned out, and achieved — until it wasn’t enough anymore. She was frantically searching for her Peace, not realizing until later that peace is only wholly found in God.
“Goodbye droplets. And hello flood.”
What I loved about this story was the way it translates to chasing God. How often do we let our lives derail after an unexpected event? We turn away from God and run amok, trying to find that moment of serenity…..only to realize later that we were looking in all the wrong places. God sits patiently by the sidelines, waiting for us to run out of breath and come back to Him.
What a fun idea of being set up on a blind date with a book. Love it
