A few years ago, my friend Leslie introduced me to Lisa Scottoline’s books. She let me borrow her copy of Every Fifteen Minutes and I was hooked. I’ve read a couple of others since then, but this time I borrowed the After Anna audiobook from the library.
I liked this story, for the most part. This domestic drama centers on a blended family and the aftermath of mental illness. The mom in the family, Maggie, drove me crazy with her constant desire to please.
As with Scottoline’s other books, this one has a strong presence in the courtroom. Alternating viewpoints, as well as alternating timelines, keep the pace moving. The ending seemed to come together in a massive swirl of twisted events, but it’s interesting to see how everything was resolved.
I didn’t love the audiobook version of After Anna. I had to move it to 1.25 speed just to be able to stand the narration.
From Goodreads:
Dr Noah Alderman, a widower and single father, is finally content after marrying Maggie. And they’re both thrilled when Maggie gets an unexpected chance to be a mother to Anna, the daughter she once thought she’d lost forever.
But when seventeen-year-old Anna arrives, everything changes – and the darkest turn of events will shatter their lives in ways no one could have imagined.
Sounds like a great read. I love the courtroom type stuff
This one sounds like a really interesting read!
