Goodnight Beautiful by Aimee Molloy

I’ve been picking away at this audiobook for a couple of weeks now. The cheapo wireless earbuds I bought on Instagram have come in handy; I could listen while cooking supper or folding laundry. Other than that, I really don’t get much listening time in, since my commute is now down to a few minutes instead of an hour+ every day.

The Burning Girls by C. J. Tudor #TheBurningGirls

Anytime I hear the word “vicar” it reminds me of that Friends episode when Joey finds Rachel’s racy book. It took me a while to get over that memory every time I saw the word “vicar” in C. J. Tudor’s new book The Burning Girls.

The Survivors by Jane Harper

Jane Harper took me on another amazing journey through the Australian landscape — this time, next to the beautiful, perilous waters of Evelyn Bay. The Survivors was very different from her other novels, mostly because of the character interaction. It moved at a slow, steady boil but eventually the pot boiled over with emotions, arguments, and shattered lives.

Being Small (Isn’t So Bad After All) by Lori Orlinsky #beingsmall

My sincere apologies to the author and tour hosts for my LATE post!

I have been teased for most of my life because of my height. In fact, just the other day, two adults stopped me in the hallway at work, thinking I was a middle school student out of class. To be fair, it was a “jeans day” so I was wearing casual clothes. My friends have often commented about the way my feet dangle when I sit on a couch, or that I can’t reach the coffee mugs on the top cabinet shelf. It’s just life! Kids of all ages can understand the feeling of being teased about one’s size.

Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell #LibaryLove

I read this in one sitting the night before it needed to be returned to the library. I went into the book knowing nothing about it, but picking it up off the New Release shelf because Lisa Jewell! It was okay, but I wish I’d gone to bed earlier instead.

I’ve been reading a lot of Halloween-worthy books this month, and it was time for something lighthearted. The Switch by Beth O’Leary was more of a treat than a trick! This book was out of my comfort zone a bit, since I don’t usually read romance novels. It was cute, funny, and had a special charm.

Confessions on the 7:45 by Lisa Unger #Confessionsonthe745

I have rarely in my life traveled via public transportation, and even fewer times have done so alone. The only times I can remember — riding on a Greyhound bus to Memphis, TN as a teenager (my mom was a pretty free spirit when it came to parenting) and another Greyhound bus ride when I couldn’t live without my long-distance boyfriend at Christmas during college. At no point during either trip did I feel like making a huge confession to a stranger. There were definitely strange strangers on both trips…but none like Selena found on her ride.

Heartbreak Bay by Rachel Caine #StillhouseLake #5

Heartbreak Bay left me gasping for breath as not one but TWO mothers fight for their children’s lives. I loved how Gwen’s family continues to strengthen their bonds despite hardships. I’m torn between wanting peace for Lanny/Connor and also wanting to have more Gwen Proctor tales! This story had some gruesome and terribly sad details. It’s hard to read about bad things happening to kids. I guess the reason Heartbreak Bay has so much power behind it is that Gwen has so much to lose.

Behind the Red Door by Megan Collins @AtriaBooks @MeganCollinsWriter

Welcome to my first post in MONTHS! You guys, I seriously didn’t think I’d ever be able to log on to Savings in Seconds again. We moved at the end of July, and then in early August my site went down. It was completely out of commission, and even HostGator was baffled. After many, many live chats and emails, they somehow worked a miracle and got it working again. I still couldn’t log in though — until now. Ironically, the tech who finally fixed it for me was named Jesus. I’m so glad to be back online and hoping to get caught up on all the posts I missed while I was locked out. One of the posts I missed was this blog tour for Behind the Red Door by Megan Collins.

Louisiana Lucky by Julie Pennell #LouisianaLucky @AtriaBooks @JuliePens

A few days ago, I read an article about a man who shared his lottery millions with an old friend, after they made a promise to split the winnings if either ever won. Many of us fantasize about winning the lottery, daydreaming about early retirement and upgraded homes. Fancy meals and champagne tastings sound divine to some. But what about the blessings we have now, in this moment?

The characters in Louisiana Lucky could be the people next door. They might even remind you of yourself! Have you been the mom who felt a little out of place at a book club, or found yourself crying after a bitter betrayal? I connected with all three Breaux sisters at different points in the story. Better still, I connected with my own blessings. Louisiana Lucky reminded me to live my days with joyful contentment. It’s a sweet, charming read with a lighthearted tone, yet a deep message of friendship and gratitude.
