This is the third time I’ve received books from Prestel Publishing for review. They really stand out because they’re so unusual! I love how eye-catching the titles and covers are. These are quite different from any other children’s books I’ve seen. They’re bold, beautiful, and BIG. Take a look!
Where’s the Architect? From Pyramids to Skyscrapers: An Architecture Look and Find Book by Susanne Rebscher, illustrated by Annabelle Von Sperber
Forget the seek-and-find books that showcase cartoon characters. This book is a more educational experience! Young learners will gaze upon historic landmarks such as the Great Wall of China and the Valley of Giza’s pyramids as they look for hidden images. The illustrations are absolutely exquisite. High-interest and a treat for the eyes, this book is a fun way to learn about the world’s beautiful historic sites. The book itself is quite large (yet thin, so it’s not too heavy). Each puzzle is on a double spread, making it easy to lay on a small lap. It’s quite an impressive book, and you’ll find yourself learning with your child.
Great Ports of the World: From New York to Hong Kong by Mia Cassany and illustrated by Victor Medina
Many young minds, including my own, equate the ocean with the beach, fun, and vacation. Great Ports of the World goes far beyond that shallow mindset. This book introduces readers to the culture and commerce that happens in the world’s ports. History was made in these fascinating microcosms; ideas and inventions were shared in these hubs of activity. The vintage-looking illustrations are reminiscent of the Small World ride at Disney World. Inspire your young traveler with Great Ports of the World!
Wonders of Nature: Explorations in the World of Birds, Insects and Fish by Florence Guiraud
When watching old movies, I’m always intrigued by the meticulous journals of explorers and naturalists. It’s a lost art that deserves attention. Wonders of Nature celebrates the natural childhood interest in the world, particularly on birds and butterflies. The sketches are beautiful and vibrant.
There’s a glossary of sorts in the back of the book. I’m not sure why it’s not in alphabetical order, but page numbers are provided for reference.

Remember the little Word Wizard who used to pop up when you were typing a letter or resume? Think of this book as your own personal helper when it comes to presenting an awkward idea. It’s the first book my teenage daughter gravitated toward when I was looking through these Prestel Publishing titles.
With funny little check-off boxes, illustration prompts, and other cheeky blanks, these forms help kids put tough ideas into words. Little do the kids know that their parents will file these away for memory’s sake! It’s tough to be a kid, and these forms can bring a chuckle — but most importantly, they open the door to conversation. That’s worth everything.
If you’re looking for an educational book that really stands out, I highly recommend Prestel Publishing as a terrific resource.
