Raise your hand if a vacation is not in your summer plans. (Raises hand.)
We might go on a day trip, perhaps even a weekend beach trip, but a weeklong family vacay is not in the works this summer. It’s not as big of a deal anymore because the kids really enjoy being at the house. This year, though, I’d like to make our home a refuge for the family. What do you think? With a little luck and a few new pieces of decor, it should be pretty simple to bring vacation to your home instead of the other way around!
The first thing I’d like to do is add some beach-perfect pieces that welcome our friends and family to our home. One Kings Lane offers lots of beautiful items
that are ready for the house, just add the barbecue and water. We love to entertain in the summer; hosting impromptu pool party bbq’s is one of the highlights of those sunny days. My husband just found one of our pool umbrellas on the driveway, broken by the windstorm a few nights ago. This hotel-inspired umbrella would give us the feel of an expensive resort while staying home. Sounds pretty great to me!
Now, speaking of barbecues and friends, you’ve got to read One More Last Chance. If there was ever a girl who wanted to be home, it’s Sarah Cooley. More than a little bit standoffish, Sarah bristles anytime there’s mention of changing things up in her smalltown of Last Chance. Though it’s far removed from my perfect beach scene, Last Chance has many redeeming qualities.
The main thing I liked about this book was the male counterpart Chris Reed. Anytime there was a blow to his plans, he took it in stride and tried to make the best of it. The situations in the story were realistic and didn’t seem contrived. In fact, the story about Chris’s sister and her neglectful maternal instincts reminded me of a few moms I’ve known. There are some fun neighborhood gatherings in Last Chance that just might inspire you to host your own get-together!
One More Last Chance is the second in the series about this small town. However, it’s great as a stand-alone novel. If you haven’t read Welcome to Last Chance (the first book in the series) don’t worry. You can pick up this one and feel right at home.
No matter where your travels take you this year, I hope you have many safe and sunny summer days!
I wish a safe summer to you too. My grand kids are coming. We are looking around the area for fun day trips and activities. Sometimes you really can bring the vacation to your area. We bought an air mattress and plan on doing some nights like a living room camp out.
Umbrellas are wonderful. We just bought another one this year. I really like the crank and tilt feature. Easy to use and really helps with the shade.
