Last summer we purchased a 2004 popup camper for our camping trips (after our travel trailer was stolen from our driveway). The popup needs some TLC. The air conditioner gave up on our first trip — during a very hot July 4th weekend — and there are a lot of cosmetic things we want to do to make it a little prettier. In preparation for this year’s camping trips, we started working on it over the past few weeks.
I hope you’ll follow along as we get this girl ready to go!
The interior of the camper is serviceable but not pretty.
Last year we bought everything we needed for the air conditioner repair (on Amazon — so convenient.) Last week, while my husband tackled the air conditioner….
I took down the curtains and valance. Pretty sure I heard the angels singing once all that ugly fabric was finally pulled down!
Here’s one corner BEFORE…
… and this is what the camper looks like after.
I don’t plan to put up another valance, but am anxiously waiting to buy fabric for the curtains! I found some adorable camper-themed fabric on Etsy, but only a yard was available. That will be enough for little accents like curtain tie-backs and pillows. I bought it, and now need to buy some solid fabric to finish off the curtains.
Meanwhile, we’ve suffered through a couple weeks of bad weather. Rain, snow, and cold temperatures have kept me inside. I didn’t want to pop out the camper in this weather, but it gave me a chance to pay attention to the cushions.
We’ll be using the dining slide as a bed for the next few years, so I don’t plan to cover those cushions now. I’ll do it when we use the dining table again! So that left me with only the main “sofa” area to recover. I purchased fabric on sale at Hobby Lobby. Not wanting to pull out the sewing machine, I ordered velcro strips to make the job go faster.
On the left, you can see the original blue plush fabric.
Don’t worry — I also ordered Scotchguard spray to (hopefully) protect this cotton duck fabric! Luckily, it’s machine washable.
I’m currently stumped on this dining booth issue — any ideas?
View this post on InstagramI need some popup camper remodeling advice! We have a 2004 Flagstaff. The side of the dining booth has an upholstered panel of ugly trim and I can’t figure out how to remove it. It’s firmly attached in some way, but I can’t find the screw or nail that’s holding it there. There are fabric-covered buttons that turn, so I thought they were screws. However, the panel doesn’t loosen when I turn them. I can’t get under them to pop them off. Please help me figure this out! Keep in mind that I am not a DIYer. This is my first project (inspired by @thepopupprincess) so use small words. #popupmakeover #rvremodeling #popupcamper #camperrenovation #diy

Looks like a great freshening and lightening to make more space in the pop up. Love the fabric choices
I am super jealous! This is the only way to go camping as far as I am concerned. A bit of roughing it, but lots of comfort.
