Most of us are in a state of uncertainty right now, even though spring usually brings a sense of renewal and the excitement of a fresh start. This week I couldn’t get in touch with my mom (she lives 7 hours away) and my overactive mind started to create scenarios….all bad.
Mom works on the cleaning staff of a hospital, so I automatically jumped to conclusions that she must be in the ICU or something, unable to reach me. Thankfully, she’s fine — the doctor ordered her to bedrest due to a state of exhaustion. She was asleep for most of the last 4 days, trying to recover.
Since I’m in hunker-down mode, I almost skipped the giveaway hops for March. I missed the early March hops when my son came down with flu. Then I pulled myself up by my bloggy bootstraps and decided that we all NEED to feel lucky for a little while!
Here are some ways that I feel lucky right now.
Books
Right now our schools are all still in session, but if something happens and we’re asked to work from home, I have plenty of books to bide the time. My book cart is full, and my Kindle is charged and ready.
In case you missed Colleen Hoover’s FB post, you have 5 days to grab some of her titles for free! You can currently grab Verity, Hopeless, Too Late, and Never Never. Be sure to thank her for this generous act!
Food and other essentials
When my kids complained about not having enough room in the fridge to put the extra food I bought, I told them that we’re lucky to be in that position. My son thought I was weird for saying that. He has never lived in poverty. I’m worried about the kids who will go without meals while their schools are closed. The toilet paper shortage is a nonissue for those who can’t afford to buy a few extra packs to hoard. Our family lives paycheck to paycheck like most other people. We’re lucky that our jobs will still provide a paycheck if we can work from home; many people don’t have that luxury.
Health
Right now, our household is healthy. My husband does have some medical issues that puts him in a higher risk category, but we’re not overly concerned. I’m grateful that the mild inconvenience of being housebound is all we’re dealing with. Reading about Italy makes my heart hurt. I’m praying for those who are currently living through the fear of the unknown.
I’m lucky to have a job.
I’m lucky yo have plenty of toilet paper.
