I’ve always been simultaneously intimidated and mesmerized by false eyelashes. One of my friends recently had the “Lash Lift” eyelash perm done, and while it was a gutsy move, she looks ah-may-zing. I’m not ready to go for that level of procedure yet, but I did want a little more va-va-voom on date night. When I was asked to try out some magnetic false eyelashes, the idea intrigued me. How could the lashes really stay on without adhesive?
Have you wondered how to wear magnetic false eyelashes? Here’s how I did it.
Here’s what my normal lashes look like after a coat of Benefit They’re Real mascara (Beyond Black) and Stila Stay All Day Eye Liner (intense black). They’re not terrible, but not really noteworthy either.
The magnetic eyelashes came in a compact-like case. At first, it seemed like overkill to me, then I realized that they can be used again. This makes a nice storage case. The instructions on the back said to look for the lashes with a red dot. I saw no red dot, even after scrutinizing the lashes for what seemed like minutes.
Applying false eyelashes takes a bit of coordination in any case, but the magnetic lashes leave a bit more room for mistakes. You can easily remove them and try again if they’re not in the right position. At least I didn’t have to worry about adhesive, which tends to irritate my eyes. I dropped the lashes at least a dozen times, which seemed to weaken the magnetism. They were still very strong magnets, though, which surprised me!
To get these to match up correctly, I held the top lashes still — at the outer corner of my lash line — and “aimed” the bottom lashes to try to match them. Since these are actually two sets of lashes that stick together, it is a very heavy layered look. I didn’t like it. I took a pair of small scissors and snipped the lashes down to a small cluster, then trimmed the length a bit, too.
Hey, there’s that red dot. See it?
Once I had the smaller section of lashes, it was much easier to work with. I ended up using them just on the outer corners of my eyes. This gave my eyes a little pop of drama without being too heavy on the falsies look.
Now, if you do this, be careful about getting the small sharp edges of the lash line near your eyes. It’s definitely a thin metal wire holding it all in place, and it could hurt you! I was careful, though, and had no problem getting the smaller pieces to hold together. For me, this was much easier than using the entire lash strip.
Here’s a close up so you can really compare the before-and-after. See the difference?
The best thing about the magnetic lashes was that they stayed on the entire evening. I forgot I even had them on, they were so comfortable! They didn’t move a smidge, unlike the adhesive kind that usually fall off my eyes after an hour. My husband picked me up right after work so we could head to dinner for my birthday. When I got in the car, he said, “You look pretty!” I don’t think he realized it was the eyelashes, but I knew.
Would you wear magnetic false eyelashes?
Cool, didn’t know there was such a thing.e
I have always wanted to try these. They look great!
