Northern Light book review #giveaway

Just look at that book cover!  Everything about the Northern Light cover screams “ROMANCE” — from the lacy, billowy gown to the wisps of falling hair to the watercolor sunset.  So gorgeous!  And you haven’t seen anything yet.  Get in your Scarlett O’Hara mode now, because this post-Civil War era novel is going to rock your socks.

It’s hard to imagine what life was like in those blue and gray years.  The distrust, betrayal, and fear must have been stifling.  Unspeakable grief isn’t enough; people were forced to choose between compassion and loyalty.  As the main character Margaret Logan tried to rebuild her life, she was torn between her family and her heart.  Oh, the romance is almost palpable!

Many societal situations remain current when compared with Northern Light. Sibling rivalry, stereotypes, and familial responsibility all played a part in this gem of a novel.  I admired how Margaret’s parents tried to keep life as normal as possible for their children, despite the terrible dilemmas they faced.  This is the first time I’ve read a novel by Annette O’Hare, yet I felt that her writing style was so familiar.  Please, please, please — we need a movie.
