When I am under the weather, a nap is almost always in store. Thankfully my husband and I have worked out a system where we take turns on this: one of us naps while the other does kid-watching duty. Since my liver has been on the blink, I’ve really noticed a difference in my energy level. There are days when I simply must take a nap or I am incapacitated. Trying to eat a better diet and get some exercise takes the back burner when I can’t keep my eyes open. One simple way to go green and get a burst of energy is with All Day Energy Greens. This green drink packs a big punch. It contains as much as 5 servings of fruits and vegetables! When I read the ingredients I was pleased to see that it contains soy lecithin. My mother-in-law is a huge cheerleader for natural products and she told me that lecithin would help my liver. So hooray, that’s something I needed anyway!
The packaging on this product is very convenient. The little packets open so easily, you don’t need a pair of scissors or anything. I also like that the tubes are small enough to be thrown into a lunchbox. The tube contains quite a bit of powder, too much to add to a bottle of water without pouring some of the water out first. I think I’d like to spread it out over the course of a day so that I don’t have to drink so much at one time. Since my classes are packed pretty close together, there’s not a lot of time to run to the restroom throughout my school day.
I have no prior experience with drinking greens so I wasn’t sure where to start. Many of the blogs I follow add powder like this to smoothies. I might go that route with the next batch. The directions say that the greens can be mixed into water or juice so I tried it with iced water. The powder is green as can be, which in turn makes the water completely green. It’s a little intimidating for a newbie like me. The powder didn’t completely dissolve when stirred with a spoon; you might need something a bit more ambitious for this drink. Still, the powder wasn’t gritty or anything when I drank it. This would be best sipped with a straw but I didn’t have one. I was very hesitant to take that first sip but pleasantly surprised when I found that it tasted pretty good. The flavor reminded me of slightly sweet kale. I really like greens so this was a perfect way for me to get incorporate them into a busy day. The drink was sweetened just a bit, maybe with stevia, so it could easily be added to some fruit juice. For me, it would absolutely have to be served cold. I’m very squeamish about swallowing strange liquids and the look of this was scary but the flavor wasn’t. This was definitely a mind over matter experience for me. I’m not the type of person who would normally drink something like this and it surprised me that I actually liked the flavor. My entire family stared at me as if I had grown a third eye. I’m wondering if this powder could be added to a recipe, like vegetable soup or a quiche, without changing the flavor too much? It might be a good way to sneak a few extra veggies in the mix. Don’t tell my family I said that!
