The New Adventures of Gumby – the 1980s Series Volume 2 DVD

Disclosure: I received this DVD as an NCircle Ambassador. Opinions shared are mine.

This giveaway is for the GUMBY DVD.

My kids are always hearing about my childhood favorites. Sometimes this information is met with eyerolls; other times, they’re stunned by the bizarre nature of the 70’s and 80’s. Pet rocks and treasure trolls, for example, just look crazy. Gumby is another nostalgic part of my growing up years. It’s time to school the kids on this classic.

So Cool! So Cute! series National Geographic #SchoolDays2019

My kids have always been in love with stuffed animals. They’re the #1 souvenir chosen when we travel, and they are held dear for years afterward as a memory of each trip. National Geographic sent us a couple of books new to the So Cool! So Cute! series, but the stuffed shark and panda were the major hit of the day! I definitely heard the “Baby Shark” song a couple of times, too.

PopUp Makeover Ideas – in the planning stages

Disclosure: Post contains affiliate links; if you make a purchase, I may earn commission. Opinions shared are mine.

A few weeks ago, I shared our new-to-us popup camper. Just a few days after we purchased it, the air conditioner went out on it so we weren’t able to take it out again. The temps have been reaching the 90+ range around here, and I’m a glamper! My sweet hubs purchased all the needed materials to fix it; we just haven’t had time to get to it. In the meantime, I’ve been thinking about our camper makeover plans.

The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware

Disclosure: I used Amazon affiliate links in this post; I may earn a commission if you use the links. Opinions shared are mine.

My son loves that show Jessie on Disney Channel. In the show, a nanny named Jessie cares for a ragtag bunch of kids who have been adopted by super rich Hollywoodish type parents. The parents are almost nonexistent; they blow in once or twice a season for an appearance. Otherwise, Jessie and the kids are on their own to navigate the world.

The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware reminded me of a twisted version of Jessie. I rarely buy ebooks, but had some Kindle credits to spend and this one has been on my wishlist since I heard about it a few months ago.

Oh my goodness, this week was almost the death of me. It was time to head back to school (teachers have inservice the last week of July here!) and my daughter was in band camp for 2 weeks. Thankfully, my in-laws stayed with us and helped with childcare. I don’t know what we would have done without them! Yesterday I finally had time to sit down and breathe for a moment. Here’s what I did with my day.

Buying in bulk – what’s your strategy?

Whether you have a mansion with multiple walk-in closets or a tiny house with multipurpose nooks and crannies, everyone has to make choices about purchasing in quantity. Our house is smallish, so we’re hyperaware of the constant flux of stuff coming into our space. There are a few things I like to buy in bulk, though.

Swing by Kwame Alexander @theffbc #BLINKSummerReading19 @BlinkYABooks

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. Opinions shared are mine.

You might remember last week’s Meet the Sky post. I feel super lucky because I was selected for a second book in the Blink Summer Reading Tour! Big thanks to the publisher and Fantastic Flying Book Club for the chance to read Swing by Kwame Alexander. Another big thanks to Kwame for writing books that my students are excited to read! Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book.

#BLINKSummerReading19 #giveaway

I was introduced to Kwame Alexander’s books last school year when Booked was posted as a summer reading choice for my students. The unusual text format stood out as a unique feature, and the compelling character backstory made it a popular option for middle school readers. Swing has a similar draw, pulling in students with athletic interests and typical teen issues of crushes, tryouts, and friendship.

#BLINKSummerReading19 #giveaway

I love that Swing encourages readers to think differently about books. Conversations aren’t common in poetry (at least, not any that I’ve read!) yet it has a natural place in Swing. Instead of reading in stop-and-start paragraphs and chapters, the stanzas generate a fluid motion throughout the story.

Swing by Kwame Alexander with Mary Rand Hess

Publisher: BLINK

Release Date: October 2, 2018

Genres: Young Adult Fiction — Poetry, Realistic Fiction, Sports

SYNOPSIS:

Things usually do not go as planned for seventeen-year-old Noah. He and his best friend Walt (aka Swing) have been cut from the high school baseball team for the third year in a row, and it looks like Noah’s love interest since third grade, Sam, will never take it past the “best friend” zone. Noah would love to retire his bat and accept the status quo, but Walt has big plans for them both, which include making the best baseball comeback ever, getting the girl, and finally finding cool.

To go from lovelorn to ladies’ men, Walt introduces Noah to a relationship guru—his Dairy Queen-employed cousin, Floyd—and the always informative Woohoo Woman Podcast. Noah is reluctant, but decides fate may be intervening when he discovers more than just his mom’s birthday gift at the thrift shop. Inside the vintage Keepall is a gold mine of love letters from the 1960s. Walt is sure these letters and the podcasts are just what Noah needs to communicate his true feelings to Sam. To Noah, the letters are more: an initiation to the curious rhythms of love and jazz, as well as a way for him and Walt to embrace their own kind of cool. While Walt is hitting balls out of the park and catching the eye of the baseball coach, Noah composes anonymous love letters to Sam in an attempt to write his way into her heart. But as things are looking up for Noah and Walt, a chain of events alters everything Noah knows to be true about love, friendship, sacrifice, and fate.

In Swing, bestselling authors Kwame Alexander and Mary Rand Hess (Solo) present a free-verse poetic story that will speak to anyone who’s struggled to find their voice and take a swing at life.
