What will $10 buy at The Book Depository?

I’ve been so discouraged lately with the climbing prices of…well, just about everything. Last week when everyone was sick, we had a few carry-out meals and it broke the bank.  Going to a restaurant is crazy expensive, even if it’s a drive-thru fast food meal.  Groceries are pricier than ever, and filling the gas tank is almost painful.  Ouch!  Just when it seems like all hope is lost, though, there are still bargains to be had.  For instance, you might be surprised what $10 will buy at The Book Depository!    [Read more…]

I don’t send a lot of snail mail these days.  Thankfully, the bank keeps up with paying my bills!  Address labels are still super handy to have around the house, though.  Get a set of address labels from StickerYou.com!

When we travel, I like to purchase specialty foods to take home with me.  One one Italian restaurant we visited in Williamsburg sold imported pasta that made fantastic pasta salad.  When I received this package from Tuscanini, that’s what was on my mind!

Lullaby by Jonathan Maberry #AudibleOriginal

Disclosure: Post contains affiliate links; I may earn commission if you make a purchase. Opinions shared are mine.

I’ve been subscribing to Audible for years now, ever since we moved to a small town and a 40-minute commute.  It’s paid for itself easily through high-price books available for one credit (Harry Potter!) and the free monthly books I receive.  Usually, the credits go toward books the kids will enjoy.  We’re currently listening to Charlie Hernandez and the League of Shadows — which my kids LOVE — but for the rare moments when I’m in the car alone, I want to treat myself to an adult book.  Luckily, I’d received a free copy of Lullaby by Jonathan Maberry a few months ago as an Audible freebie.

When I discovered Netgalley, I went a little overboard.  It was like letting me loose in Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, except the book version.  There are dozens of books waiting for me to update my review, so I’m making an effort to give them all some attention.  After reading What Lies Below by Barbara Taylor Sissell, I have to wonder why I waited so long!

Smoke & Summons by Charlie Holmburg #SmokeAndSummons

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for review. Opinions shared are mine.

There’s a point in a reader’s life when she starts reading for others.  At least, in my life that happened.  I still read books that I love, but I also try to squeeze in books that my kids would enjoy.  Connecting through books is important to me.  Since I teach middle school, it’s also a way for me to keep up with books my students might enjoy.   A few years ago I read Paper Magician on the recommendation of one of my students.  Loved it!  Normally, I don’t read a lot of fantasy, but when I saw that Smoke & Summons was written by the same author, it drew my attention right away.

Have you ever forced yourself to take a break from a book so you could enjoy it longer? I had to do that with Wolfhunter River.   We waited so long for book 3 in Rachel Caine’s Stillhouse Lake series, and I just didn’t want it to end!

Now, I need to reread the whole series again to relive the exhilaration!
