Between Before & After by Maureen Doyle McQuerry

Disclosure: I received a free book.  Opinions shared are mine.

If someone had written a book chronicling the inner musings of my teenage mind, it would have been a dull read.  Most of my thoughts centered around boys, shoes, and crying.  As I read Between Before & After by Maureen Doyle McQuerry, I felt like I must have been quite shallow as a teen.  When I became a mom myself, I realized that I’d never seen my own mom as a woman looking for her own way in life.  It really did take me that long. Crown of the Pharaohs by Andrew D. Connell

Disclosure: I will receive a copy of the book from the author. Post contains affiliate links; I may earn commission if you make a purchase. Opinions shared are mine.

Teaching reading is only as fun as the reading material I get to share with my students!  Fortunately, there are so many great options for series and themed books.   Every year, I ask students to complete an end-of-year survey about the books they’ve read.  Time and again the students tell me that the #1 factor in choosing a book is teacher recommendation, followed by a friend’s suggestion.  That is a huge responsibility, people!   I take it seriously, trying to stay current in middle grade and teen fiction.  When author Andrew Connell reached out to share his Sean Livingstone series, I had to check it out.

Hoo Hoo Who by Mary Maier

Disclosure: I’ll receive the book pictured; opinions shared are mine.

I’m excited to show you the first title from a new children’s publisher Building Block PressHoo Hoo Who? written and illustrated by Mary Maier with speech pathologist Lauren Horton (February 2019; ISBN: 978-1944201142; Hardcover $17.95; Ages 2-5; 32 pages).   It’s all kinds of fun!

As an infant, my son had hearing issues due to chronic ear infections.  He had ear tubes, but by then his speech was already impacted.  After several years of struggling with the school system to provide speech services, he finally got into a speech class at the beginning of 2nd grade.  He has worked very hard for 2 years, trying to master the basic sounds of the English language.  I’m thrilled that Hoo Hoo Who makes speaking fun.  Hopefully, it will help children like my son enjoy practicing proper speech sounds!

Save the Brushes with Steripod

Disclosure: I received Steripod product samples. Opinions shared are mine.

A few days ago, I got to take my daughter on a special Mom & Daughter night.  We went to a Panic at the Disco concert in Charlotte.  What a fun time!  When she got ready for bed that night in the hotel, she pulled out her toothbrush.  To keep the brush clean, she had Lindt truffle wrapper twisted around it.   Though I have to admit she was resourceful, this wasn’t the ideal way to keep her toothbrush sanitary!  It was time to introduce her to Steripod.

Sometimes it’s easy to peek into the window of someone else’s social media posts and be a little wistful…jealous, even.  After reading All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin, I can easily and honestly say that I’m so grateful for my husband and children.
