When you’re on a road trip with kids, it’s important to be prepared. Activity books might seem like a thing of the past, but they’re essential to have on hand in case the electronics go downhill! Sometimes we’re at a campground that doesn’t have Wi-Fi, or I don’t want the kids to use up all my data watching Netflix videos. If you’re headed out of town and there are kids in tow, here are 3 books that can tag along for the fun.
Doodled Cats
The goal of Doodled Cats is to get the creative juices flowing. There’s no need for perfection, nor is artistic talent a requirement. When they were younger, my kids frequently asked me, “What do you want me to draw?” This book gives them specific prompts with a little inspiration. Clever doodling is a great way to release creative energy!
Mad Libs
Remember reading the hilarious results of mad libs you composed with your friends? It’s STILL fun! We have a mad libs app on my phone that has brought us so many belly laughs. Sometimes, though, it’s nice to go old school with the paper-and-pencil version. Favorite themes are easy to accommodate. Marvel mad libs can make a boring trip much more fun!
Qwerkles
Have you heard of Qwerkles? They’re a fun new way to combine puzzles and coloring. My students LOVE to see the pictures that are revealed! It takes a long time to finish Qwerkles, so start them at the beginning of the road trip and aim to finish one or two. Try the book of famous masterpieces, or maybe the one for animal lovers (this one has a coupon for additional savings).
Here’s a Qwerkle my daughter has been working on for a few days. She uses Copic markers to create these pretty pictures!
See how much fun activity books can be?

Would like to win, I like cats. Going to have lots of fun with this
My friends and I still get a hoot out of doing madlibs together! They can be even more fun as adults.
My husband and I have two cats named Ozzy a black cat and Buddy a long haired orange & white cat. They are both goofy boys and like to get into a lot of trouble. 🙂
My girls are fans of cats and mad libs and would have a blast with these books.
I’m all about the car games and road trip books. My kids favorite was one that had them check off license plates from different states – they never found all 50 states in one trip. Then one random day at home we saw a car with a Hawaii license plate – one that always eluded us – we all just started yelling and cheering and everyone around us probably thought we’d lost our minds.
I would like to win “Doodled Cats” because it will give me the knowledge and savvy to live a more cat-centric life!
My daughter loves cats and drawing. I think she’d love this book!
I like that it has step-by-step instructions.
The cats and drawings are just too cute!
I’d like modern drawing!
I really like their “Drawing: Landscapes & Vistas by Diane Cardaci” book. Love to be able to draw like that! Thanks and God Bless! ILuvTheEucharist @ aol
Fun art for the cat lover. I would love to win!
This looks like a fun book to take on a road trip.
I want it because my mo would love it and we have 9 cat’s.
These look fun for the kids. It can also really help to keep them occupied on the long car trips where it is easy to get bored and fussy
