If Paula Hawkins wrote it, sign me up. I have loved all 3 of her books. After I rated A Slow Fire Burning (4 stars), I checked to see what I rated In the Water (5 stars). I still think I prefer A Slow Fire Burning just a little bit more! I highly recommend the audiobook version which features the brilliant Rosamund Pike as the narrator. Thanks to Libro.fm for providing me with a copy!
The only problem I had with this book was that there were SO MANY characters. It was difficult to keep them all straight! I considered making a little list just so I wouldn’t have to keep rewinding to figure out what was going on. The book really builds momentum as it goes, and there are plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing! The switching back and forth of characters helps to keep the story moving because you’re constantly getting distracted…and losing sight of impending danger.
My favorite character in this book was Laura. She was the most honest and real character, while she was also the most socially flawed. I absolutely loved her connection with Irene. Hawkins did a great job of bringing to light the ugly little scars on her characters’ souls.
This book was clever and confusing at the same time. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next Paula Hawkins adventure!
