The leaves are beautiful in east Tennessee right now! I’m afraid today’s rain and heavy winds might bring them all to the ground, but it has been a glorious week. Don’t worry about missing it. You’re just in time for the Lucky Leaf Giveaway Hop, hosted by MamatheFox!

I’ve never had the chance to travel to Canada, but have heard that it’s a wonderful place to visit. Perusing this cookbook, Taste the Wild — Recipes and Stories from Canada, it’s almost possible to smell the fresh air and feel the breeze on my skin.

The cookbook is brimming with full-color photos, both of the completed recipes and the extraordinary Canadian landscape. Some of the recipes seemed familiar, such as simple butter tarts and s’mores. Others, though, were fresh and new. Grilled lemonade? Marinated bananas? Poutine? So many fun ideas! Despite the novelty of these regional dishes, most of them contain ingredients that can be easily found just about anywhere.

I was vaguely surprised to see that the recipes listed mostly metric measurements, then converted to standard measurements. Some of the ingredients are portioned in teaspoons and tablespoons. Since I don’t own a kitchen scale, I would have to guess at the quantities.

Along with the recipes, readers will find anecdotes and lovely photos. I enjoyed reading the cookbook cover-to-cover like a novel.

This unique cookbook would make a nice gift for your favorite cook.

About the Book:

Who doesn’t dream of leaving everyday life behind and really experiencing nature with an adventure in the wilderness… and a delicious campfire supper to round off a perfect day? The awe-inspiring photographs in Taste the Wild are a stunning backdrop for the moreish recipes within the pages. Split into four chapters, Lisa and Lars start with In Search of Space, which urges you to live your day offline, reconnecting with nature and your everyday actions – after all, the best experiences are when you live in the moment, sipping a Berry latte and tucking into some French toast with lemon sugar. The chapter Limitless Freedom is all about the exploration: share a Pan-baked Bannock pizza with friends over dinner and snack on some Beaver Bites during the day, which are dusted in cinnamon sugar after frying. Go Your Own Way is for recipes on the road: Lobster rolls, Ink-black halibut burgers and Iced tea with cranberries. Lastly, Blissful Solitude is all about recipes that you can eat under the stars, from Warm grilled vegetable salad and Onion campfire bread with Cajun spice butter, to Roast beef with smashed potatoes Maple cheesecake with strawberries.

Taste the Wild is a cookbook that reflects Canada’s heart and soul, bringing a sense of adventure into our kitchens.
