We recently visited a new-to-us church, and I have learned so much from the pastor. He regularly incorporates Greek and Aramaic words into his sermons, explaining how they relate to the context of the scripture. It’s fascinating, and makes God’s word even more meaningful. This week I took along The Abide Bible to use during the service.
I wasn’t very familiar with the NET, or the New English Translation, but noticed that there are some cool updates to this transation. Some are kind of funny (like the heading that said “Six Hundred Brides for Six Hundred Brothers”) but I also loved the artwork scattered throughout the pages. Thought-provoking commentaries and journal prompts also engage the reader, making this a study Bible as well as a reference tool.
My children have gone through several copies of the Bible in their childhoods. My daughter especially liked to have a Bible with some entertainment value — whether it had illustrations, coloring pages, room for journaling, or cool facts about history. When I saw The Abide Bible, I knew it was perfect for her! She just got back from a trip in Europe and got to experience famous artwork. When she discovered that The Abide Bible contained some of the art she personally saw, she was enchanted!
