Disclosure: I received a free book as part of the blog tour. Opinions shared are mine.
You’d think that with almost reaching my Goodreads goal of 118 books this year, I’d be throwing in the towel after 100%. That’s just crazy talk. With books like The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein to read, I’ll never take a reading break!
This book went with me on our recent Florida trip. I tucked it in my carry-on and pulled it out once I got my family checked in and settled at the airport. After a few moments, I realized my daughter was reading over my shoulder. She couldn’t take her gaze away from the first few pages…so I let her have the book. She read it the entire 2 hour wait at the airport, during the entire flight, and many times during our vacation. I was sad to lose my book, but it’s a good problem to have when your child wants to read! She said she loves Kiersten White’s writing style.
I was captivated by those first few pages, too. It’s mysterious in the most perfect way. Though it’s just right for the Halloween season, don’t limit yourself to reading it only in the fall.
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein has the perfect levels of darkness and light. It stands alone as a truly exceptional story with a nod to the original.
As mentioned, the author’s writing style is enchanting. The way she wove threads of horror into romance took skill and deep perception. The cover is perfect for this novel!

Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver,” and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets . . . until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything–except a friend.
Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable–and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.
But her new life comes at a price. As the years pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost . . . as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.
