For those who want to read historical fiction with a bit of spice, we have The Debutante’s Code by Erica Vetsch. It’s a romantic mystery that is completely unlike any other Regency book I’ve ever read!

I love it when characters turn out completely different from my expectation! Going into this book, I expected Lady Juliette Thorndike to be a prissy missy getting ready for her season. Instead, she turns out to be a force to be reckoned with! At the beginning of the story, it felt almost like Downton Abbey. By the end, it’s like Mission Impossible. My favorite part was the scene at the auction. My husband and I used to love going to auctions, and this reminded me of those lively events!

This is my first time reading a book by Erica Vetsch. I liked her writing style and plan to read more. There were a few phrases that I’d never heard of, and it’s always fun to learn something new through historical fiction (such as taking arsenic to keep one’s skin “milk white” — eek!)
