Disclosure: I received this book free from the publisher. Opinions shared are mine.

My daughter is always talking about TV and book character “ships.”   I thought it was a kid thing for a while, until I read The Empowered by Craig Parshall. The main character was Trevor, a former NYC attorney turned demon fighter.  You know Gwen Marcey, a forensic artist, from my reviews of the Carrie Stuart Parks series, When Death Draws Near and Portrait of Vengeance.  The whole time I read this book, the Trevor & Gwen ship was building in my mind!   Trevor and Gwen NEED to find each other!

Things Gwen and Trevor have in common:

They’re both Christians.  Trevor is much more open about his faith than Gwen is, but they both believe in Jesus and his saving grace.  They’ve both seen terrible evil in the world and faced it with bravery.  The two of them could get together and really tell some interesting stories!

They’re both single parents dealing with stubborn kids.  Trevor’s daughter Heather doesn’t really appreciate the gift of finding her dad after decades of not knowing him.  She’s rather snarky with him, often spouting off biting comments that hurt him more than he reveals.  In the Gwen Marcey books, Gwen’s daughter is rather bratty. These two young ladies could battle it out, leaving Trevor and Gwen to fight crime.

They’re both looking for a relationship.  In The Empowered, Trevor had two ladies vying for his attention.  He still had time to flirt, despite his busy demon-hunting schedule.   Likewise, Gwen keeps her calendar booked but could use a nice dinner out.  She had some interest from a couple of men in Portrait of Vengeance, but I’m not convinced they’re right for her. .

They find themselves in sticky situations ALL. THE. TIME.  We’re talking about constant trouble!  In The Empowered, Trevor went from one bad incident to another.  It seemed that all his connections became entangled!  The spiritual combat he encountered felt all too real; author Craig Parshall gave a tremendously descriptive narrative of the events.  Gwen’s amazing memory and artistic skill could be a huge help to Trevor.

They both like an isolated lifestyle.  Trevor’s beachy cabin is the perfect quiet place to weather a storm. Gwen’s private cabin in the woods is a wonderful contrast.  They could be the surf and turf couple!

As you can see, I’ve already shipped this couple.  Their ship name would be Treven.  Imagine all the good they could do, fighting crime and supernatural forces!

Do you “ship” book characters from different stories?

  1. I love that they are both Christian! My mom raised me as a single parent so I can relate. This book sounds interesting!

  2. LOL!!! Gwen really does need someone! I’ll have to read Craig’s book to see what Gwen would have to say.
