Disclosure: I received a copy of this book on Netgalley. Opinions shared are mine.
A few years ago, there was a good run on post-apocalyptic books. We had The Hunger Games, Divergent, and even The Host (which my friends didn’t like, but I still loved.) Lest you think that ship has sailed, Tosca Lee strolls in with her new book The Line Between. It’s all kinds of amazing!
The Line Between has such an interesting story line. It crosses a cult-based plot with an ancient contagion that threatens to wipe out the country. I haven’t read a book like that before! It’s kind of like Birdbox with a Scientology twist.
The main character, Wynter, could not be more perfect. She’s smart, funny, and courageous. At 22 years old, Wynter was old enough to make adult decisions. Her upbringing tempered her strong spirit, yet she’s such a vulnerable soul. I absolutely adored her.
**Spoiler alert**
A mild romance brews in this story. It doesn’t take over the plot, but it’s just enough to keep the story moving in a positive direction. And I love Chase. That is all.
**Spoiler over**
The Line Between speaks to the goodness that is in humanity. Despite the selfishness of those who seek to fulfill their own needs and wants, there are so many good characters in this book. It’s scary to consider how close this situation comes to the realm of possibility. I definitely won’t look at a slice of bacon the same for a while!
There’s a quiet faith element in The Line Between, but it’s so understated that you could read the whole book without really noticing it. Instead of blatant evangelism, the undercurrent brews in Wynter’s subconscious. She has to explore her own beliefs. She must work through what she knows from what she feels. The characters do a few things that are not typically found in Christian fiction, so it’s not an entirely “clean” read for those who are sensitive to things like alcohol or very mild profanity. It didn’t bother me at all, and I wouldn’t hesitate to let my teenage daughter read this.
My only sadness comes from having this book in electronic form. I need a print copy so I can share it with, oh, every single person I know!
Cool, thanks for the spoiler warnings too
Sounds like an interesting book!
