A few weeks ago, I finally got around to reading my months-ago BOTM pick The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. This book was everything I love in a great ghost story! Definitely 5 stars from me.

The dual timeline in the book worked so well, especially with the characters related by family and personality ties. I could visualize both Viv and Carly in my mind, looking like sisters in costumes. I look a lot like my aunt and grandmother, so this really connected with me.
I also loved the setting of Fell, NY. As a spooky small town, it was just perfect! I found myself picking up the book at every spare moment, trying to squeeze in just a little more.
There were some great twisty events in The Sun Down Motel that kept the momentum going. I have to admit, I had my own theories about some of the characters. Those predictions didn’t pan out, though. I love it when an author stumps me!
I rarely keep books after reading them, so I ended up sending this to a friend the day after I finished it. If I get it back, I just might reread this one. It was THAT good!
(Note that there are some violence and scary triggers that might impact sensitive readers.)
Since I loved The Sun Down Motel, I plan to treat myself to some more Simone St. James books. I loved her writing style.
