Listening to audiobooks helps me to get to some of the books on my ever-growing TBR list. Audiobooks aren’t my first choice of reading methods, but it does enable me to multitask. I’ve been comparing my TBR list to the books available at the public library, which is how I ended up listening to The Vanishing Season this weekend.
I don’t even remember why I added this book to my TBR list, and I had no idea what it was about before I started listening last night. After the first few chapters, I went over to Goodreads to see its rating. It wasn’t good. I almost stopped listening, but decided to stick it out. Actually, I’m glad I did. The book was pretty good. I listened to it at 1.25 speed.
The main characters in this book are teenagers. The extraneous adults in their lives were lackluster and unimportant. I felt some frustration at that, because it seemed like the teens were kind of left to their own devices for most of the story. The other end of the book’s spectrum included a vague reference to a ghostly narrator….which didn’t really make sense until the very end.
The book is beautifully written, with detailed descriptions and spot-on emotional narrative. I rather wished I had a hard copy so I could have enjoyed reading it at my own pace.
I really love audiobooks when the actors are really terrific–and it helps to keep my mind occupied when I’m working on other things!
I really love audiobooks for helping with my TBR as well. I am not sure if I have listened to this one, but I will definitely make sure it is on my list. 🙂
